Knowing that a lot of people might now start reading this blog who don't speak french, I feel somewhat compelled to write in English, as our French friends will probably understand better that way than the reverse....
Well this is half a Louis on a bridge between Vermont and New hampshire on our second day here in the US.

After leaving Haverhill and Ron and Delci's kind and funky family, we followed the Connecticut River down towards South (where else...) to Ascutney. The road was absolutely gorgeous, sided with amazing mansions from the 18th century (just like Ron said). I understand why the place is called New England; it looks just like southern UK, especially with villages called Bath, Lyme, Wentworth and so on springing up every other mile. I felt all it was lacking was a Jane Austen Tribute Museum.
Pretty damp and foggy in the morning, it cleared up in the afternoon and turned bitterly cold in the evening.

We then took a warm shelter in the Proctor library with Mary the librarian and a gang of nice children then proceeded to a restaurant to "indulge" in what would turn out to be one of our worst and grocely overpriced meals ever. However, seeing as the people were kind enough to actually offer us a space to camp out in the buker in their backyard, I will not blast them. And I'm sure Louis would disagree with me saying what I just said about the food just for the sake of being polite despite the fact that it was utterly revolting, but I'm French, and honest ;0)
The bunker

In the morning, we left again in a beautiful sunshine after a winner's breakfast composed of overripe banana and leftover candy from halloween. Just what one needs to cycle 40 km!

Breakfast a l'americaine...

Stopped for a nice lunch in Murray's in Walpole, then left, meaning to reach at least Brattleboro through route 5, but stopped in Putney VT after 15 miles going up and down slopes -especially up actually (don,t ask how that's possible but it is!)-, on a yes gorgeous road as well, but I guess if we had to do it again we'd choose the other riverbank which is flatter.
HOWEVER, we got to Putney, charming thriving little village with a really cool library and a really cool librarian as well, who took us home to his family's home in the woods where we are now lazing. hihi.
